Description

FIREYE 85UVF1‑1 Phoenix Integrated UV Flame Scanner

Product Detailed Description

The FIREYE 85UVF1‑1 is a microprocessor‑driven integrated ultraviolet flame scanner belonging to the Phoenix 85UVF series. This all‑in‑one device integrates UV sensor, flame amplifier, logic processing and relay outputs inside one compact housing, eliminating requirement for external separate flame amplifier modules. It detects ultraviolet radiation emitted by combustion flames, performs automatic flame threshold learning, self‑diagnostics and fault indication. The base variant 85UVF1‑1 comes with fixed cable; derivative QD suffix versions adopt 8‑pin quick‑disconnect connector for fast field replacement. OEM active production status is limited; available supplies consist of new‑old‑stock, surplus and refurbished units for burner‑management system retrofits and plant spare‑part maintenance.

Compatibility & Installation Pitfalls

Compatibility

  1. FIREYE burner management controllers, compatible with most Phoenix‑series burner safety logic racks
  2. Industrial boiler, process heater, duct‑burner combustion safety systems
  3. Works with optional silica‑core armored fiber‑optic kits for remote optical sensing applications

Note: 85UVF1‑1 cannot directly substitute IR‑type 85IRF1‑1; spectral detection principle differs and will cause false flame or flame‑loss trips. QD and non‑QD mechanical variants are not pin‑for‑pin drop‑in replacements without cable modification.

Installation Pitfalls

  1. Optical sight alignment risk: The scanner must aim directly at flame root. Smoke, soot, water vapor, refractory debris or window mis‑alignment will attenuate UV signal, creating false flame‑loss alarms.
  2. Lens contamination: Quartz front lens accumulates dust, oil and combustion residue. Dirty lens leads to gradual sensitivity degradation without immediate fault warning; regular cleaning is mandatory.
  3. Polarity reversal damage: 24 VDC reverse polarity will damage internal circuitry. Strictly observe power polarity during field wiring.
  4. Automatic learn‑sequence mis‑operation: Skip auto‑learn procedure after installation will store wrong threshold values, resulting in unstable flame detection. Do not copy parameters from other burner units.
  5. Cross‑model mix‑up: 85UVF1‑1, 85UVF1‑1QD, 85UVF1‑1CEX, 85UVF1‑1QDK3 are mechanically similar but differ in connector, hazardous‑area rating and optical filter. Always verify full suffix part marking before procurement.
  6. Electromagnetic interference: Route signal cables separately from high‑current power cables; heavy EMI can distort 4‑20 mA flame‑strength analog signal.
  7. Hazardous‑area compliance: Base 85UVF1‑1 is not rated for explosive‑zone installation; select CEX suffix model for hazardous classified locations.

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

  1. Pre‑work: Initiate burner lock‑out‑tag‑out permit, shut‑down combustion system, cut 24 VDC supply to scanner.
  2. Visual inspection: Examine new spare unit for housing cracks, lens scratch, cable insulation damage; confirm full part‑number marking.
  3. Mechanical mounting: Install scanner onto burner sight port; adjust mounting angle so viewing cone targets flame root. Secure mounting threads tightly.
  4. Wiring: Perform field wiring strictly follow drawing, verify correct 24 VDC polarity, connect relay and 4‑20 mA signal circuits.
  5. Commissioning auto‑learn: Start burner under normal stable firing condition. Trigger scanner auto‑learn routine to capture real‑target flame signature and store detection thresholds.
  6. Functional validation: Conduct flame‑on / flame‑off test sequence. Confirm relay status, LED indication and 4‑20 mA flame‑strength analog output respond correctly. Simulate flame loss to verify safety trip action.
  7. On‑site documentation: Record learned threshold values, fill commissioning log. Schedule periodic lens‑cleaning maintenance item.
  8. Post‑job: Release lock‑out‑tag‑out permit only after full safety function passes acceptance test.
