Description

ABB DSDP150 is a Pulse Encoder Input Unit

Model: DSDP150 | Part No: 57160001-GF

Product Title & Description

The ABB DSDP150 is a Pulse Encoder Input Unit, part of ABB Advant OCS / MasterPiece DCS system. It captures pulse and encoder signals for frequency, speed, length and position measurement. It reads 12VDC incremental encoder / pulse generator signals, supports pulse counting and frequency measurement up to 10kHz, and transmits calculated values to Advant Master controllers via rack backplane bus. Widely used in pulp & paper, metal rolling, power and chemical plants. It is a critical spare for legacy ABB Advant DCS maintenance and retrofit.

Core Product Overview

DSDP150 is rack-mounted pulse encoder input board for Advant OCS. It is the predecessor model of DSDP160, with lower maximum input frequency. It accepts 12V pulse/quadrature encoder signals, performs on-board pulse accumulation, frequency calculation and scaling. Front panel LED indicators show channel and module health status. Built-in diagnostics detect wire break and signal loss faults.

Lifecycle note: DSDP150 is discontinued. Only available as NOS or refurbished spare for existing Advant OCS systems.

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between and DSDP160? A1: max frequency 10kHz, designed for 12V encoder signals. DSDP160 supports higher frequency pulse inputs for turbine MPU and high-speed encoder applications.

Q2: What signals can receive? A2: 12VDC incremental quadrature encoder and pulse generator signals for speed, length and position measurement.

Q3: Is still in production? A3: Discontinued. Only NOS and refurbished spare available for legacy Advant system maintenance.

Q4: What controller does communicate with? A4: ABB MasterPiece AC100 / AC160 controllers via Advant rack backplane bus.

Q5: Warranty for original ABB 57160001-GF? A5: Original / refurbished unit carries standard 12-month factory warranty under proper installation and operating conditions.

Installation & Configuration Guide

7.1 Pre-installation Preparation

Verify board, inspect backplane connector and front LED indicators. Prepare shielded pulse/encoder cables, Advant rack, encoders or pulse sensors. Power off rack before installation, wear ESD protection.

7.2 Installation Steps

Insert into empty Advant rack slot and lock the module. Wire field encoder/pulse signals using shielded twisted pair cables, single-point shield grounding inside control cabinet. Check rack backplane power and protective earthing, ensure cabinet ventilation.

7.3 System Configuration & Commissioning

Power up rack, check module LED status. Configure pulse channels, scaling, filter and alarm thresholds via Advant engineering tool. Simulate pulse/encoder signal to verify counting accuracy and fault alarm. Confirm speed/length/position values transmit to Advant controller. Save system configuration database.

7.4 Maintenance & Precautions

During plant outage, inspect wiring terminals, cable shielding and PCB dust accumulation. Keep cabinet clean. If unstable counting or missing pulses occurs, check encoder sensor, cable shielding and grounding before replacing .
